BENGALURU: One faction of the state-run transport corporation employees’ associations on Tuesday embarked on an indefinite hunger strike at Freedom Park while another faction has planned a strike from August 5.

After a meeting with the labour commissioner on Monday, the transport corporation union said they are firm on their strike from August 5. They said they will have another meeting with the transport corporation officials on August 2 and if their demands are not met, they will go on strike from August 5.

However, on Tuesday, the transport corporation employees’ federation and the KSRTC employees’ federation launched an indefinite hunger strike seeking fulfilment of their demands.

The employees of the four transport corporations in the state are demanding payment of back wages, pay parity, holding of elections and reappointment of those who have been sacked. If the employees go ahead with the strike from August 5, bus services across the state are likely to be affected.
