BENGALURU: The Bellandur traffic police have written to the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) to clear slit from rajakaluves and storm drains in the city months ahead of the monsoon season.

Last September, heavy rain triggered water-logging on roads in many parts of the city and the traffic was chaotic. Roads in the Mahadevpura zone, including Bellandur, Marathahalli and Whitefield, were completely waterlogged and residents faced many issues. To prevent recurrence of this in the upcoming monsoon, the police have written to the BBMP requesting that slit from rajakaluves and drains be cleared.

The Bellandur traffic police have advised that immediate measures be taken for repair of rajakaluves and storm drains to prevent waterlogging, primarily on nine roads, including the road connecting to Bellandur lake from behind Ecospace, Sterling Ascentia apartment, from KPTCL Belladur to Challakere, near Rainbow Apartment on Sarjapur road, Sarjapur-Wipro Road, Halanayakannali-Rainbow Apartment road, Sarjapur fire station road in Kaikondrahalli; for the repair of the drains from Agara Lake to Bellandur Lake, from Devarabeesanahalli to Sakra Hospital, and Yamaluru, Epsilon Villa, Prestige Tech Park towards Kadu Beesanahalli STP.

Tushar Giri Nath,BBMP chief commissioner.

“We appointed contractors to clean the rajakaluves in Mahadevapura Assembly constituency. We have finalised the tender and they will clean it for three years, even before the rainy season. We did one-time cleaning in the unlined sections last time and we will call for tenders again for the unlined sections”, said BBMP Chief Commissioner Tushar Giri Nath.
