BENGALURU: The underpasses along the Outer Ring Road have turned into black spots for motorists. Many accidents used to take place every day when vehicles coming through an underpass collide with speeding vehicles on the service road. With a view to reduce accidents, the traffic police have installed convex mirrors at underpasses.
The underpasses along the Ring Road from Nagarabhavi to Gorguntepalya have become danger spots for vehicles with accidents involving two-wheelers becoming a regular affair. Finding a solution to the problem had become challenge for the traffic police department.
At many underpasses that come under the jurisdiction of Kamakshipalya traffic police station, including Malagala, Terige Bhavan and Vijay Netralaya, there is always a risk to vehicles and drivers as well. Many accidents were taking place here when the vehicles coming through the underpass collided with speeding vehicles on the road. In view of this, policemen were deployed near the underpasses of this route as more accidents were occurring at night, leading to deaths.
With the installation of the convex mirrors at underpasses, motorists passing through will have a clear view of the vehicles coming on the service road. Similarly, vehicles coming through the underpass will also be visible for vehicles on the road. This will help prevent accidents, the traffic police feel. The police themselves collected funds for this work with the cooperation of locals and citizens have lauded their work.
Siddaraju, a local, said, “It is very helpful for the motorists. Earlier, there was traffic congestion and we dreaded to move our vehicles through the underpass. Now the problem is solved after the installation of convex mirrors. We hope that the number of accident will be reduced. The traffic police have done great job”.
“Earlier, accidents were common during night and that too it was reduced. Motorists would also get into fights leading to traffic jams. We can check four sides in the mirror while crossing the road”, he added.
