Toxic froth floats in Then Pennai River

BENGALURU: A layer of toxic foam has formed on the Then Pennai river at Kelavarapalli Dam in Hosur on Tuesday.

The white froth, a mixture of sewage and industrial waste, has formed in sections of the Then Pennai river, and the inflow of water into Kelavarapalli dam is high due to rain. Chemical waste from industries in the border area is being let into the river, and the water released from the dam is also frothing.

A white froth is formed in the Then Pennai river due to chemical flow into the water.

The total capacity of the dam is 44.28 feet, and currently the dam holds 40.34 cubic feet of water. Due to the increase in inflow, 1,148 cusecs of water is being released from Kelavarapalli Dam. A large amount of water is overflowing on the banks of the South Pinakini river also.
