CHAMARAJANAGAR: The wildlife safari at the Bandipur tiger reserve has resumed and tourists were treated to a spectacular sight of various animals and birds on the first day itself on Sunday.

The safari, which restarted on Sunday, saw tourists spotting a tiger, a herd of elephants, peacocks and tortoises among other wildlife. The tourists were thrilled to catch a glimpse of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat.

The resumption of the safari has drawn large crowds of tourists, eager to experience the thrill of spotting wildlife in Bandipur’s forests.

Meanwhile, farmers in Chamarajanagar have launched an indefinite protest against the resumption of the wildlife safari in Bandipur, alleging that it will exacerbate human-wildlife conflict.

The protesters, led by farmer organisations, have taken to the streets, marching in protest and staging a dharna (sit-in) in front of the district administration building.

The farmers claim that the Forest Department is prioritising the interests of resort owners over those of local farmers, who have been suffering due to the increasing human-wildlife conflict.

District In-charge Minister K Venkatesh visited the protest site and assured the farmers that he will take up the issue with the Chief Minister and Forest Minister. He also promised to take action against illegal resorts in the area, regardless of their influence.

The farmers have warned that if their demands are not met, they will intensify their protest and plan further action, including a protest in front of the Mysuru Regional Commissioner’s office on February 25.
