CHIKKABALLAPUR: A tipper lorry driver was killed in an accident on National Highway-44 while trying to flee from a mining officer who was following him for allegedly violating rules.

The tipper driver Ramesh, a resident of Lingasugur in Raichur district, had joined his job just four days ago. He was transporting M-sand from Yelagalahalli crusher zone in Chikkaballapur taluk to Bengaluru.

A mining official was chasing the tipper.

Mines and Geology officer Savitha, a geoscientist, was on night duty at the Chadalapura mining check post. When Ramesh didn’t stop his tipper, she followed him in her vehicle. Ramesh was allegedly carrying 25 tons of M-sand with a permit for only 15 tons, and tried to escape.

As Ramesh approached Nandi Cross near Sri Krishna Convention Centre, he suddenly stopped his tipper and attempted to cross the highway, but was hit by an Maruti Ertiga car coming from Bengaluru at high speed and died on the spot.

The police have taken custody of the tipper and the car involved in the accident. The post-mortem is being conducted at Chikkaballapur District Hospital. The mining officer claims she was just doing her duty, while the tipper drivers and owners are angry with her, alleging that her actions led to Ramesh’s death. They are demanding justice for Ramesh’s family.
