Tiger which killed two men in Kodagu district captured alive by Forest Dept

MADIKERI: The Forest Department personnel conducted a combing operation for a tiger which had killed two people, and captured it alive at Nanachi Gate in Ponampet taluk on Tuesday.

Two people were killed in a span 24 hours in separate incidents of tiger attack in a coffee plantation. The villagers had demanded that the Forest Department take necessary measures to control the tiger menace. Following a government’s order, the Forest Department personnel made necessary arrangements to capture the tiger. On Tuesday morning, the department personnel started ‘Operation Tiger’ with the help of five tamed elephants and 150 additional personnel.

The Forest Department personnel darted and captured the tiger near Nanachi Gate.

On Tuesday afternoon, the department personnel tracked the movement of the tiger near Nanachi Gate, darted the tiger and captured it alive. The tiger is said to be 8–9 years old.

On Sunday evening, 18-year-old Chethan was killed at Palleri village near the Kodagu-Kerala borderwhen he was working in a coffee plantation. Chethan’s father Madhu was also attacked when he went looking for the former. The next day, the tiger attacked Raju (75), a resident of Palleri village, and Chethan’s grandfather, He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.
