Tiger trapped in cage near Gundlupet village; Another dies of illness in Mysuru zoo

CHAMARAJANAGAR, MYSURU: A tiger was caught in a cage Devapura village in Gundlupet taluk on Thursday, attracting a large crowd. The Forest department and police officials had a tought time keeping the people at a distance as they worked to ensure the tiger’s safe relocation.

The tiger had been causing trouble in the area, giving villagers sleepless nights. Locals gathered to catch a glimpse, causing the tiger to growl and jump inside the cage.

The tiger had been spotted frequently in the past 2-3 months, creating fear among residents. The forest department had set up the trap, and the tiger was caught, bringing relief to villagers.

Forest officials plan to safely relocate the tiger. This is not the first such incident, with a similar case occurring 10 days ago in Bommalapura village.

Meanwhile, a five-year-old tigress named Thayamma, who was being treated at Mysuru Zoo, has died due to health complications. She was rescued from the Bandipur Tiger Reserve in 2021 and was under care at the zoo.

Thayamma had been suffering from blood-related issues for the past 10 days and had stopped eating. Despite treatment, her condition worsened, and she succumbed to the illness.
