Tiger kills ox, leaves another injured in Gundlupet village; Monitor lizard rescued from farmhouse

CHAMARAJANAGAR: A tiger killed an ox and injured another when it attacked the pair left in the fields for grazing at Mangala village in the Kundakere forest range of Bandipur tiger reserve.

The tiger attacked the oxen right in front of farmer Shivaiah’s eyes and fled after he raised an alarm. Shivaiah said the dead ox was worth Rs 2 lakh. The farmer said the oxen were his lifeline and has sought suitable compensation from the Forest Department.

The monitor lizard was rescued and released in the wild.

In an unrelated incident, snake catchers Mahesh and Manju caught a monitor lizard from a farmhouse in Ambale village of Yelandur taluk and safely released it into the wild.

The monitor lizard is an endangered species and it took more than an hour to rescue it from the farmhouse.
