TUMKUR: Three women, who underwent different surgeries at the Pavagada government hospital in Tumakuru district, have died, raising concerns. The three women had undergone sterilisation, hysterectomy and a C-section and died over the last five days.
On February 22, seven women underwent various types of surgery, including delivery. Anita (30), from Veerlagondi village, who underwent sterilisation surgery, died immediately after the surgery.
Another pregnant woman, Anjali, from Rajwanti, gave birth to a child through C-section. The condition of the woman was serious after delivery. So he was admitted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment, but she died on February 24, without responding to treatment.
In another case, 40-year-old Narasamma of Badanur village underwent hysterectomy. As Nasaramma’s condition was critical, she was admitted to Vanivilasa Hospital in Bengaluru for further treatment. Nasaramma died on February 25. It is said that all the three were admitted to the hospital on February 22.
The families of the deceased women are demanding the authorities concerned to take action again against Dr Pooja, who performed the surgeries, and have blamed the hospital authorities for negligence. They also protested in front of the hospital holding portraits of the deceased and seeking justice.
District Health Officer Dr Manjunath, who spoke to Public TV, said that on February 22, a total of seven women underwent sterilisation, Caesarean section and hysterectomy. “It cannot be said that the doctor’s negligence was the reason for this incident. It may be due to a lack of cleanliness in the operation theatre. There is staphylococcal bacteria menace in the operation theatre. The women may have died because of that. An investigation team came from Bengaluru and has taken samples”, he claimed.
The DHO also warned that action would be taken against the hospital staff, including the doctors, if the report establishes negligence on their part.
