BENGALURU: Three people, who were injured in the Chinnaswamy Stadium stampede, are undergoing further treatment at Bowring Hospital. A 14-year-old boy is still in the ICU, and two others, who suffered leg injuries, have undergone surgery.
Dilip and Manoj, two young men, underwent leg surgery after suffering bone fracture on Thursday and will continue to be treatment at the hospital for a few more days. The 14-year-old boy, who is still in the ICU, has a head injury and is receiving ongoing treatment. He is expected to receive treatment for another 3-4 days before being discharged.
One of the injured in the stampede that took place outside the Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on June 4, is undergoing treatment at a hospital, recounted the tragedy. The incident occurred when a massive crowd of fans gathered to greet the Royal Challengers Bengaluru after they had won the IPL trophy.
The young man said, “I broke my leg in the stampede. RCB had posted about a victory parade, so we went to the stadium. When we reached Chinnaswamy Stadium by 3.30 pm, there was not much police security deployed at the place. The police suddenly resorted to lathi-charging us. There was a huge crowd, there no space to move, and I fell down. The barricades also fell on my leg, and people trampled over them”.
“The government is providing Rs 10 lakh compensation to the families of those who died, but nothing for those of us who were injured. We cannot do any work for two to three months. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah expected 3,000 to 4,000 people, but 3,00,000 to 4,00,000 fans had gathered over there. It was a massive crowd. If the government provides compensation to the injured as well, it will be a big help”, he said.
