KARWAR: The bodies of three girl students who were swept away into the sea at Murdeshwara beach, have been recovered by the Coast Guard, police and Fire and Emergency Services personnel.
The three girls who drowned were identified as Deeksha (15), Lavanya (15) and Vandana (15). Two were found in the sea near Naveen Beach Resort in Murudeshwara and one was found in a distant place.
The deceased students were part of a group of 57 students and teachers from Morarji Desai Residential School in Kolar district who had come to the beach for a picnic.
Another student, Shravanti, had died earlier in the day. The students were swept away by strong waves while playing in the sea.
The bodies were brought to the shore by boat. Seven female students drowned in the sea on Tuesday. Three of them were rescued by lifeguards, while Shravanthi died.
The incident has raised questions about the safety measures in place at the beach. A total of four people have died in the tragic incident in Murudeshwara. It is alleged that the students died due to the negligence of the teachers and the tourism department.
