Three babies were kept in one NICU at the hospital.

BALLARI: In a serious instance of medical negligence, three preterm babies were placed in a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) at the Vijayanagar Institute of Medical Sciences (VIMS) and were being administered treatment.

As per norms, only one child is kept in each NICU to ensure that no infection spreads from one to another. However, VIMS seems to have thrown all norms to the winds.

The issue came to light when child rights commission member Shashidhar Kosambe visited the hospital. It was revealed that the three bathrooms in the NICU were also blocked and the maternity ward was also in a bad shape.

Kosambe took the hospital staff to task over the state of affairs and directed the authorities to bring all records to a meeting with the district officials. The hospital witnesses over 800 deliveries in a month.
