BENGALURU: The Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP) carried out an exchange of primates on Wednesday. Two male and one female Hamadryas baboons were imported from Singapore zoo as part of the exchange programme and to attract zoo visitors.
The Hamadryas baboon is a species from the Old World monkey family and is mostly found in Africa. They mostly eat grass, seeds, leaves and roots. Sometimes, they eat insects like scorpions, spiders, worms, and small mammals. The males are twice the size of females, and a large number of zoos from other countries have already demanded these primates.
“I am very happy with the arrival of the Baboons. I serve food and clean the area and they are now getting acclimatised. When the doctor instructs me, then I will leave them out in the open field. I’ve made sure they have everything they need,” said a zookeeper at Bannerghatta Biological Park.
