Three elephants electrocuted on farm in Dharmapuri district, farmer arrested

Police personnel and villagers gathered near the farm where three elephants were electrocuted.

BENGALURU: Three elephants were electrocuted on a farm land at Marandalli in Dharmapuri district of Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. The jumbos died after coming in contact with the electric fence around the farm land which was erected to prevent wild animals from marauding the crops.

The two young elephants kept hovering around the dead female elephants.

A herd of five elephants had camped near the village outside the forest over the last few days. On Tuesday, three of the adult elephants came in contact with the electric fence and died with the two young ones kept hovering around.

The farmer had drawn an illegal power connection for the electric fence.

Farmer Murugesh (55) from Bheeka Kottai village has been arrested for drawing an illegal power connection for the fence, which led to the death of the elephants.
