Three bears electrocuted after coming in contact with snapped power line

The bears were electrocuted by fallen power lines.

HASSAN: Three sloth bears were electrocuted after they cam in contact with a snapped live wire on farm land at Kallusadarahalli village in Arasikere taluk. The dead bears include a male and a female about 6-7 years and a cub aged about one year.

After the heavy rain on Sunday, a power line had snapped and fallen on the fields. The bears are suspected to have come out of the forest close to the fields in search of food when they were electrocuted.

Villagers found the dead bears on Monday morning.

The dead bears were found by farmers on Monday morning. While the male bear was found with the power line in its mouth, the female and the cub are suspected to have stepped on another fallen power line in an adjacent field while fleeing. They were found dead side by side.

The villagers informed the Forest Department and the power utility who arrived at the spot. The carcasses were sent for post-mortem examination and dead bears were buried later.
