Three arrested for theft of Rs 1 crore cash from areca trader’s car

BENGALURU: The Upparpet police have arrested three people, including a car driver, in connection with the theft of Rs 1 crore in cash from an interstate areca trader’s car on October 7.

H S Umesh had come to the city from Chitradurga in connection with areca purchase in different districts with the cash in his car. It is suspected that the theft occurred when he had parked his car in front of a hotel in Gandhinagar and gone out for lunch. The cash was kept in a blue bag in the car.

The Upparpet police arrested three people including the car driver.

Later on, Umesh had made stops at Chandra Layout and Dabaspet. Around 7.45 pm that day, when he reached his shop at Bheemasandra in Chitradurga, he realised that the cash had been stolen.

Based on a complaint from Umesh, the Upparpet police had registered an FIR and took up investigation following which three were arrested.
