MANGALURU: A young woman from West Bengal was allegedly gangraped, found in a semi-conscious state with injuries on her body in a secluded area near Kallapu in Mangaluru on Thursday. The Ullal police have been arrested three people.
The woman had come to Mangaluru with a friend in search of a job. She had reportedly gone out alone after an argument and asked an autorickshaw driver for help. The driver and his friends are suspected of giving her intoxicating substances and committing the crime.
The Ullal police have arrested three people in connection with the incident, including the autorickshaw driver and his friends.

Mangaluru police commissioner Anupam Agrawal briefing the incident said the victim basically from West Bengal, who worked at a plywood factory in Uppala, Kasaragod, Kerala. She visited Mangaluru with a friend to look for a job. After a quarrel with her friend, who broke her mobile phone, she got into an autorickshaw driven by Prabhuraj (38) who hails from Mulki.

Agarwal further said, “When the woman regained consciousness, she realized she was not wearing her inner garment and realised that she had been raped. The accused took her to a secluded area near Kuttaru Kodi and abandoned her after she screamed. Based on her statement, the police have registered a case and are investigating”.
The Mangalore Commissioner stated that the medical report will confirm whether there was as case of rape.
