HASSAN: A college student who had attempted suicide after being threatened by her boyfriend, succumbed to death at a hospital after failing to respond to treatment, in the early hours today.

Asha (20), a second-year BCom student at YDD College in Belur and hailing from Bellotte village, was in a relationship with Manjunath, a second-year BA student at the same college and a native of Katihalli village in Alur taluk. Both would regularly hang out together.

Recently, Manjunath was spotted with another girl and Asha questioned him about it. Manjunath then allegedly threatened her that he would kill her if she questioned him and would upload on social media their photos and chats.

Upset over this, Asha consumed poison near the college around 11.30 am on October 6. On noticing this, Manjunath rushed her to the government hospital in Belur, but since her condition was serious, he shifted her to the Hassan district hospital and fled. After more than a week in hospital fighting for survival, Asha died around 3.45 am on Saturday.

The girl’s father Ramaiah has lodged a complaint with the Belur police accusing Manjunath of being responsible for her death. Further investigation is under way.
