MANGALURU: Belthangady BJP MLA Harish Poonja sparked a debate when he asked what would be the condition of Hindus in the country if the Muslim population reaches 80 crores and the Hindu population reduces in number.
Addressing a gathering in Tulu during the Ayyappa Deepotsava ceremony at Peradi in Belthangady taluk on January 7 evening, Poonja said, “We are complacent that we are more in number and that nothing will happen. But people of another community have four children in a family while we have one, at the most two children. Sit and home and think what will happen if that 20 crore have four children in each family”.
Further, the MLA asked, “What will be the plight of Hindus if their population increases? I am not saying we should increase population. Just think in how many years Hindu population will come down and their population will rise at this rate. We should think about what will happen in this country if at all their population grows to 80 crores and our population reduces to 20 crores”.
