Chamarajanagar: Thieves break into house, steal 750 gm of gold, 15 kg silver and Rs 5.5 lakh cash

CHAMARAJANAGAR: In what is said to be the biggest theft in the district, thieves made away with 750 gm of gold, 15 kg of silver and Rs 5.5 lakh cash from a house here when no one was at home. The theft came to light on Thursday morning when a neighbour stepped out to buy milk and saw the front door open.

Senior police officer along with forensic experts visited the spot and collected evidence. The theft occurred when the house owner Srinivas Kumar and his wife Renuka S Kumar had gone to Bengaluru to perform some death ceremony rituals of Srinivas’ father. Their children are living in Bengaluru.

Renuka said, “We had gone to Bengaluru for the ‘vaidika’ of my father-in-law and my father. Our neighbour informed about the theft and I returned. The door was broken open and all the valuables were stolen. The police have taken up investigation”.

Police Superintendent Dr Kavita B T said, “The thieves broke in through the front door and as per Renuka’s complaint, 750 gm of gold, 15 kg of silver, Rs 5.5 lakh in cash, a tablet and a mobile phone have been stolen. A case has been registered at the Town police station and we will nab the culprits soon”.
