Thieves break into bank at Nyamathi, make away with cash, gold worth over Rs 1 crore

DAVANAGERE: Thieves broke into the State Bank on India (SBI) branch in Nyamathi and made away with a large amount of cash and gold jewellery worth over Rs 1 crore. The thieves gained entry by using gas cutters to cut open a window.

The thieves also took away the CCTV camera’s digital video recorder. The dog squad and fingerprint experts were called in to trace evidence. The police are now on the lookout for the thieves.

The thieves had cut open a window and the lockers with a gas cutter.

Police Superintendent Uma Prashant, who visited the scene of crime on Monday, said preliminary investigation revealed that the thieves had made away with cash and gold worth over Rs 1 crore and cutting open the lockers.

In 2019, thieves had broken into the Karnataka Bank branch at Honnali in similar manner. Nyamathi has witnessed more than 15 cases of chain snatching in the last four months.
