Thieves break into ATM using gas cutter in Belagavi, make away with Rs 75,000 cash

The thieves broke into the ATM around 3 am on Wednesday.

BELAGAVI: Thieves stole Rs 75,000 from an SBI ATM here after switching off the lights in the wee hours on Wednesday. The entire incident was captured on a CCTV camera installed inside the ATM and about 3-4 people were involved in the theft.

Belagavi Police Commissioner Iada Martin Marbaniang said, “The theft occurred around 2.30 am and the police were informed around 3 am. I have checked the CCTV footage myself and 3-4 people, wearing masks with blankets wrapped around them arrived in a car”.

“First, they blinded a CCTV camera with spray paint and cut of power supply. They then used a gas cutter and took away Rs 75,600 which was in the ATM. A similar theft had occurred in Maharashtra and I have instructed all banks to increase security. The ATM where the theft occurred had no security guard. A case has been registered at the Marihal police station and further investigation is under way”, the police commissioner added.
