Sri Lanka’s star cricketer Jai Surya has just thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi and India for helping his country when it is needed the most.

Sri Lanka has been facing the worst economic and political crisis since its independence in 1948 from India. As a result, significant protests are taking place, demanding the President step down from his chair. To aid the troubled island nation, India has so far supplied 2,70,000 metric tons (MT) of fuel. In the last 24 hours, India has provided 36,000 MT of petrol and 40,000 tons of diesel to the country, along with medicines, cereals and rice.

Thanking the country for its help and support Jai Surya said, “Being a neighbour and a brother nation to Sri Lanka, India and Prime Minister Modi have always been on our side, for which we are very grateful. Living here has become increasingly difficult for the common man. But with India and other neighbouring countries’ help, I hope that we all can come out of this situation.”
