Terminated without notice, garment company employees stage protest

The employees of a garment company staged protest for terminating them without any notice.

KOLAR: Hundreds of employees of Pradhan Garments at Malur industrial area staged a protest on Tuesday after they were allegedly terminated without notice.

MLA Nanjegowda extended financial to the employees.

The company reportedly forcibly terminated women employees who had worked for the company for the last 15 years. More than 250 employees participated in the protst. MLA Nanjegowda visited the protest site and extended financial assistance to 300 employees.

MLA Nanjegowda ensured providing job in other garment companies for the employees.

MLA Nanjegowda claimed, “The garment company has closed down without clearing employees’ benefits. Protesters have been on the streets for four days. The company’s owner, manager and other employees are not available on phone. I have inquired with the retrenched employees about their problems and spoke to the district labour officer. Following a complaint, a notice has been issued by the authorities concerned to the management. If they will not respond by Tuesday, the workers will lodge a complaint with the police against the company”.

More than 100 of garment employees staged participated in the strike.

The women employees shared their problems with MLA Nanjegowda and he assured to provide them jobs in other garment companies in Santehalli village.

An employee of the garment company said, “We have been waiting here for the last four days to talk to the manager of the company. But no one has come as of now. The MLA has promised us alternative jobs”. They alleged that the company had cheated them and has not given salaries properly.
