Tension prevailed after the escort party allegedly assaulted a bus driver.

BENGALURU: Tension prevailed on the Bengaluru-Chennai highway near Krishnagiri in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday after some defence personnel who were escorting some heavy equipment allegedly assaulted a bus driver for overtaking them.

An officer apologised to the crowd after which the situation eased.

The defence personnel were escorting some equipement from Velore to Bengaluru when a TN state transport bus overtook them. Angered by this, the escort party allegedly assaulted the bus driver Tamilarasu.

Irked by the behaviour of the defence personnel, the bus passengers got the driver to stop a little ahead and blocked the convoy demaning that they should apologise. They were joined by hundreds of locals, leading to traffic coming to a halt for some time.

The police took down the statement of the bus driver who was allegedly assaulted.

On receiving information, the Kuruparapalli police arrived on the scene and the situation eased only after an officer in the escort party apologised to the angry crowd.
