Tension after Buddha statue found damaged, Ambedkar banner slashed in Chamarajanagar village

CHAMARAJANAGAR: Tension prevailed at Jyothigowdanapura village in Chamarajanagar taluk after unidentified miscreants damaged a Buddha statue and defaced a banner of Dr B R Ambedkar on Friday. The villagers have demanded the arrest of the culprits and staged protests in different parts of the village.

Chamarajanagar Superintendent of Police Dr B T Kavitha rushed to the spot and is camping in the village along with senior police officers. Massive police deployment has been made in the village, and a thorough investigation is under way.

Forensic experts and sniffer dogs have been deployed to examine the scene, and CCTV cameras are being scrutinized. The police are also analyzing call records and mobile tower locations to track down the culprits.

The SP has assured that swift action will be taken to apprehend the miscreants and that they will be arrested soon. The village is currently tense, with a heavy police presence. “The incident was detected around 6 am on Friday. A flex with an image of Dr Ambedkar was found slashed and a Buddha statue damaged”.

“The incident occurred in Chamarajanagar East police limits. We have registered a case and the dog squad was also pressed into service. We are also collecting call detail records and we will arrest the culprits soon as we have found some fingerprints”, the SP added.
