MYSURU: Tension prevailed for some time after some persons installed a statue of Bengaluru founder Kempegowda at the Kempegowda Circle near the Lalit Mahal Palace hotel here in the wee hours on Saturday.

The bronze statue of Kempegowda was installed without permission around 2 am on Saturday. The police arrived in the morning and tried to remove the statue, but Kempegowda fans got into an argument and insisted that the statue should not be removed.

Earlier, a statue had been installed at the same junction, leading to a controversy. Local MLA Harish Gowda had intervened and assured of installing the statue again after getting necessary permisson from the Mysuru City Corporation.
