Teen commits suicide by jumping off 10th floor of apartment building

BENGALURU: A teenage girl committed suicide by jumping off the 10th floor of HighPoint Tree apartment building on Palace Road near Basaveshwara Circle in the city on Sunday.

The deceased has been identified as Prakruthi, daughter of Aravind and Theju Kaushik. They are the residents of Sanjay Nagar. Prakrithi is studying in PUC at Sophia Pre-University College, Bengaluru.

In CCTV footage, the girl was seen waiting for the lift, before committing suicide in apartment complex.

 As soon as they received information about the incident, the Highgrounds police rushed to the spot and gathered information. The Jayanagar police located the address of the deceased girl, but the police did not ascertain the exact reason for her taking the extreme step.

The girl who committed suicide had Rs 300 with her and a Redmi mobile phone, but no other documents were available with her. Prima facie, the girl is not a resident of that apartment, and the police also confirmed this later on.

According to a security guard, the girl came from outside talking on the phone, but he did not allow her to enter the apartment complex. It is suspected that she somehow managed entry into the apartment complex and her cellphone was also broken. She went to the 10th floor in a lift, and CCTV footage shows her waiting for the lift.

Earlier, Deputy Commissioner of Police Srinivas Gowda R, briefing media persons about the incident, said, “We have recovered the mobile phone of the girl. Based on the preliminary investigation, we started contacting the parents. It is confirmed that she is not the resident of High Point Tree Apartment, and this is being investigating. The girl seems to be mentally upset over the board exam that was going on in the college”, he said.

 

The DCP further said Prakruti’s father is Aravind, a software engineer by profession. She attended the English exam on Saturday, and the main exam was scheduled to be conducted in March. Pakruthi’s mother contacted her in the afternoon and asked her to come home, but she replied that she would come home after some time. The apartment is located close to her college.
