BENGALURU: A man from Nelamangala in Bengaluru Rural district, who was working in Canada, was shot dead in a gun attack. The victim, identified as Chandan Kumar (37), was driving his car near Woodbine Mall in Toronto when he was attacked by unknown assailants.
Chandan’s family, who are residents of Thyamagondlu village in Nelamangala, are shocked and grieving his sudden demise. Chandan had been working in Canada for the past six years and was employed with L&T company. He was a talented and educated person who was passionate about spreading Kannada language and culture in Canada.
The police in Canada informed Chandan’s parents about the incident, but due to language barriers, it took some time to convey the news to them. Chandan’s father, Nandakumar, a retired teacher, expressed his shock and grief, saying that he had been planning to get Chandan married soon. He appealed to the government to help bring Chandan’s body back to India.
Chandan’s mother, Shailaja, said that her son was a kind-hearted person who always helped others. She recalled that Chandan had been struggling to learn English when he was in school, but had become fluent in the language over time. She appealed to the government to help bring his body back to India and expressed her desire to perform his last rites in their ancestral village.
The Tahsildar of Nelamangala, Mallesha Birappa Pujar, visited Chandan’s family and assured them of all possible help. The District Commissioner of Bengaluru Rural has also been informed, and efforts are being made to bring Chandan’s body back to India.
