Teachers plan protest, set 20-day deadline for govt

BENGALURU: After the transport employees’ strike, now teachers are set go on a strike against the government over unfulfilled demands. They set a 20-day deadline for the government, and if their demands are not fulfilled, they have threatened to go on a four-stage strike.

The teachers’ union has given an ultimatum to the government, saying they will boycott schools if their demands are not met by August 25.

1. Teachers appointed until 2017 should be considered as appointed from Class 1 to 7 and the new cadre and recruitment rules should be applicable to teachers appointed after 2017.

2. No detrimental rules should be applied retrospectively to teachers appointed before 2016.

3. All graduate teachers should be given the designation of Graduate Teacher with seniority.

4. Primary school teachers should be promoted to the posts of Head Master and Senior Head Master based on seniority, as was the case earlier.

5. The pressure on teachers due to additional work and online work should be reduced.

Protest Plan

First phase: August 12 – District-level protests.

Second phase: September 3 – Massive state-level protest at Freedom Park, Bengaluru, with boycott of classes from Class 6 to Class 8.

Third phase: September 4 – If the government doesn’t take any decision on September 3, an indefinite dharna will be held from September 4.

Fourth phase: September 5 – Teachers’ Day celebrations will be held at Freedom Park. The struggle will continue until the demands are met.
