HAVERI: A tyre of a tanker carrying spirit burst, causing the wheel to catch fire on National Highway-48 near Thotadayellapura in the taluk on Thursday night. However, a major disaster was averted due to the quick action by the Fire and Emergency Services and police personnel.
The tanker, carrying white spirit worth about Rs 24 lakh, was heading from Belagavi to Bengaluru when one of its rear tyres burst due to overheating. The wheel immediately caught fire. Luckily, no one was injured in the incident.
On receiving information, the firefighters and the police rushed to the spot. All vehicles plying on the highway were stopped at a distance till the fire was put out. The incident occurred in Haveri Rural police limits.
