TIRUCHIRAPALLI(Tamil Nadu) Passengers of a train that was on its way from Tiruchirappalli to Karaikal were evacuated after the guard of the train spotted smoke coming out from one of its coaches, railway officials confirmed on Saturday.
According to a statement by the Southern Railway Tiruchchirappali officials, train number 06880 from Trichy to Karaikal reportedly departed from Trichy at 8.25 am and reached Thiruvarmbur at 9 am, where the guard observed smoke coming out of the last car of the train.
The guard acted swiftly by stopping the train and alerting the passengers, which led to a prompt and safe evacuation, according to the statement.
The Station Master and railway staff at Thiruverumbur station were also immediately informed of the incident, and they controlled the smoke using fire extinguishers.
“A team of senior railway officials, led by MS Anbalagan, Division Railway Manager (DRM), rushed to the scene to assess the situation, and upon their arrival, they ensured the safety of all passengers,” the statement read. Officials confirmed that the incident has been brought under control. Keeping in mind the safety of the passengers, they boarded the Velankanni special train after the incident. (ANI)
