ANEKAL: A kabaddi player died after a heart attack on the court during a state-level at Mandikuppam in Tamil Nadu on Monday. The deceased was a third-year BSc student and a resident of Periyapurangani in Katampalli of Cuddalore district.
Vimalraj was participating in the kabaddi event held at Mandikuppam near Parunthi. He suffered a heart attack while he was raiding the opponent side.
Video footage shows Vimalraj tackle a player from the opponent team and falling to the ground when another member of the opponent team pins him down with his leg. Vimalkumar, however, made an effort to get up, but collapsed on the court itself.
The players and referee immediately checked on Vimalraj and the organisers shifted him to a government hospital nearby, but he died by then.
Based on a complaint from Vimalraj’s father, the local police have registered a case.
