BENGALURU: A taluk panchayat president has been arrested for his involvement in the kidnapping of doctor Basavaraj Gurulingappa. The prime accused, Appasab Janwad, along with his relative Manjunath Rugi, was allegedly involved in the abduction.
On July 17, the duo kidnapped the doctor from Attiguppe in Vijayanagar and took him to Bagalkot, demanding Rs 75 lakh in ransom.
Following a complaint filed by the doctor’s nephew, Mahantesh Yandigeri, the Chandra Layout police registered an FIR and later rescued the doctor. After three months of investigation, the police finally arrested Appasab Janwad and his accomplice.
