BENGALURU: Online food delivery platform Swiggy has alleged that emails were being sent from a fake email account to well-known universities seeking details of students looking to work with the company.
In a complaint with the Whitefield CEN police, N Harshith, who works as a manager, alleged that one Vikram Kumar Singh had been sending out the email in the name of Swiggy Minis to 17 private universities, including Christ University, Loyola University, Dayanand Sagar deemed-to-be University and New Horizon among others.
The emails were sent from [email protected], soliciting information about students and advising them to join a WhatsApp group, the complaint said. The issue came to light when Christ University got in touch with Swiggy regarding the emails. Vikram Kumar Singh had been misusing the company’s name using a fake email ID to cheat people, the complaint said.
The police have registered a case under different sections of the Information Technology Act and the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and are on the lookout for the accused.
