Suspicious drone activity reported near Kempegowda International Airport

BENGALURU: Suspicious drone activity was reported in the restricted air space of Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) during the time when a plane was taking off on Tuesday.

The orange and saffron drone was reportedly spotted by pilots of IndiGo flights bound for Delhi and Mumbai about 6 nautical miles away after takeoff. The pilots immediately informed the air traffic control (ATC) at KIA, leading to some anxiety.

The suspected drone was spotted by pilots during takeoff.

Drones and other flying objects are not allowed in the airport air space without permission, but the sighting of a drone by two pilots has raised concern. It is also not confirmed whether it was a drone or some other object.

The airport authorities say they have informed the jurisdictional Kempegowda International Airport police about the activity, but the police inspector has denied any such nformation.
