Surveyor commits suicide in Mudigere, blackmail by woman suspected

Shivakumar committed suicide at home and had left behind a death note at his office.

CHIKKAMAGALUR: A Revenue Department surveyor committed suicide by hanging at his residence at Mudigere on Thursday evening. According to the police, he was under mental pressure and a death note was recovered from his office.

The surveryor, Shivakumar, had befriended a woman when he had gone on a survey. Phone records revealed their chats and he had given her Rs 1.5 lakh, but the woman, a school teacher, was demanding more money and was blackmailing him with their recorded conversations, as per the FIR.

Shivakumar was found hanging at his residence in Mudigere on Tuesday evening.

On the other hand, two individuals had alleged that Shivakumar had not conducted a proper survey and had complained to his higher-ups. They had also approached a court. Shivakumar feared that he would be suspended and was depressed, police said.

Shivakumar’s wife and daughter are living in Bengaluru as the daughter is pursing studies and he lived alone in Mudigere, police said. A case has been registered at the Mudigere police station.
