Surrendered Naxalite Mundagaru Latha suffering from thyroid, another from gunshot wound

CHIKKAMAGALURU: The six Naxalites, who had surrendered in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah recently, were taken to the Mallige Gowda district Hospital in Chikkamagaluru for medical examination amid tight police security on Saturday.

During the medical examination, they were found be having health issue. The  surrendered Naxalites complained of minor aches and pains. Mundagaru Latha was found to have thyroid problems, while another had a gunshot wound on his hand. Most of the six were also found to have high BP and sugar complaints.

The six Naxalites, including Mundagaru Latha, Jayanna, Sundari, Vanajakshi, Vasanth and Jisha, were brought to Chikkamagaluru on Thursday night and were kept at the DAR police station. The police obtained permission from the NIA court and brought them to the city for investigation.

They were brought to the city on Thursday night under tight security under the leadership of Investigating Officer Koppa Deputy SP Balaji Singh and kept at the Ramanahalli DAR unit. Since SP Dr Vikram Amate had gone to Bengaluru on Friday, they were produced before the SP on Saturday, who questioned them. Later, they were brought to the hospital and subjected to a health check-up.

Five of the six Naxalites have cases registered against them in various police stations in Chikkamagaluru district. There are 33 cases against Mundagaru Latha, 15 against Vanajakshi, and three cases each against Sundari and Jayanna. The police are likely to conduct further investigations and interrogations in the coming days.

No case has been registered against Vasant and Jisha in Chikkamagaluru district. As the investigating officers have not taken them to the spot, six people are still at the DAR unit. There is a possibility that the cases against the Naxals, who are in police custody for 14 days, will be investigated in the city itself. Most of the cases have been registered in Sringeri, Jayapura and Koppa police stations.

Sources revealed that no investigation will be conducted on the guns and armaments that the police found in the Kittalegandi forest near Vijayapura for now. it is said that an investigation will be conducted after the FSL report is received. When the guns and ammunition were found, the police had registered a case stating that they belonged to an unknown persons.
