BELAGAVI: A group of 42 students, including 22 girls from Itagi village in Khanapur taluk staged an overnight protest at the Block Education Office (BEO) demanding Transfer Certificates (TCs) to join a government school. The students sat on a dharna at the BEO office, refusing to leave until their demands are met.

The students were studying at Rani Channamma Shikshan Sanstha, a private school, in the same village. With the government recently approving a new government high school in Itagi, the students requested TCs to join the new school. However, the private school management, led by director Vijay Kumar Sanikop, has refused to issue the TCs despite repeated requests from the students and their parents.

The students are in urgent need of the TCs as they have a scholarship exam on Saturday. Despite approaching the BEO, the private school management has not relented, leading the students to lodge a complaint with the Nandagad police station. The parents and students have warned that they will continue the protest at the BEO office until the TCs are issued.
