CHITRADURGA: A 16-year-old student from Karyannanhalli village in Chitradurga district, died after jumping from the third floor of his hostel building at Bharamasagara in the taluk in the wee hours on Monday. The incident has left his family and friends in shock.
Kotresh was a Class 10 student at a private residential school in Bharamasagara, where he was studying in the CBSE stream. According to his father, Gurulingaiah, Kotresh had a scuffle with a fellow student over sharing fruits on the night of the incident. The other student allegedly used abusive language and physically assaulted Kotresh with footwear and even threatened him.
Gurulingaiah alleged that the school authorities, including the warden and principal, failed to address the issue and instead covered it up. This led to Kotresh’s tragic decision to end his life, he said. The family is seeking answers and wants those responsible for Kotresh’s death to be brought to book. The incident has sparked outrage, with demands for justice and accountability from the school authorities.
The school principal, Pradeep, has denied the allegations, stating that the students had a minor scuffle which was resolved by the warden. “On account of Shivarathri, the students were viewing a movie till 1 am. The minor dispute had been resolved by the warden. Children keep quarrelling over trivial issues. We are cooperating with the police investigation”, he said.
However, the police have registered a case and are investigating the matter. Chitradurga SP Ranjit Kumar Bandaru visited the scene and stated that an investigation is under way. “Based on the father’s complaint, the police are looking into the allegations of negligence by the school authorities and we will take action accordingly”, the SP said.
