SHIVAMOGGA: Opposing the internal reservation cleared by the Basavaraj Bommai Cabinet, some members of the Banjara community allegedly threw stones at former Chief Minister B S Yediyurappa’s residence in Shikaripura on Monday.
The Banjara community protesters claimed that they would be treated unfairly with the implementation of the Sadashiva Commission report and demanded that the government withdraw the internal reservation that it has announced. After a clash broke out, they threw stones at former CM Yediyurappa’s residence.
The protesters expressed their outrage by setting fire to portraits of Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai, B Y Raghavendra and PM Narendra Modi. In the wake of protests by the Banjara, Lambani, Bhovi, and Korama-Korcha communities, a large posse of police personnel were deployed in front of Yediyurappa’s residence. The police resorted to lathicharge to control the situation. The district deputy commissioner has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 in Shikaripura.
