Stone pelted at Ganesha idol at Ganapathi Chowk in Vijayapura

VIJAYAPURA: Tension prevailed for some time in the city after a part of the glass casing housing a Lord Ganesha idol at the Ganapathi Chowk here was found broken. The incident occurred past midnight on the first day of the Dasara celebration.

Footage from CCTV shows a man, believed to be drunk, hurling a stone at the Chowk right in the presence of a policeman. The constable tried to dissuade the man, but he went ahead and threw a huge stone and then escaped from the spot.

The footage shows two men arriving at the spot in an autorickshaw. After the stone-throwing incident, the constable can be seen videographing the damage. The police have taken u investigation and are on the lookout for the miscreants.

The idol of the four-faced Ganesha was installed by Sri Siddeshwara Swami in 1988 on Atal Bihari Marg. The place is always crowded and there are traders from both the Hindu and Muslim communities. Hindu activists have demanded immediate arrest of the miscreants.
