BELAGAVI: A 3-year-old child was brutally murdered by his stepfather and his friends at Harugoppa in Bailhongal taluk of Belagavi.
The deceased child is Karthik Mukesh Manji. The accused are the stepfather Maheshwar Manji and his friends Rakesh Manji, Mahesh, and Shrinath Manji.
The child’s mother had married Maheshwar Manji and came to Belagavi from Bihar for work along with her 3-year-old son Karthik. They all worked near Harugoppa in Bailhongal taluk. The mother and Maheshwar worked in a cotton factory.
On Saturday, Maheshwar, who was drunk, had an argument with his wife and questioned her why she brought her son along with her. His three friends joined in and tried to assault the woman. She left the child behind and ran away.
The accused brutally killed the child by hitting him on the head with a log and then burnt the child’s body. When the mother returned home, the incident came to light. She filed a complaint with the Murgod police station, and the police registered a case and arrested the four accused.
