BENGALURU: The Dr Puneeth Rajkumar Hrudaya Jyothi Scheme, otherwise known as STEMI (ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction) programme, aimed at preventing heart attacks, is being expanded to more centres across the state.

The STEMI programme will be extended to 77 new centers, in addition to the existing 86 centres, including taluk and district hospitals, where it is already operational. This will bring the total number of centers to 163.

A management unit, comprising a cardiologist, physician, and state-level nodal officer will oversee Tele-ECG monitoring. When patients with heart-related issues visit a hospital, they will undergo tests, including ECG. If there’s a risk, a Tele-ECG will be conducted, and the patient will be referred to a bigger hospital.

The STEMI programme has already prevented several heart attack cases, and its expansion to more taluk and district hospitals is expected to further improve healthcare services. The programme, which was initially implemented in 86 centers, including taluk and district hospitals, will now be extended to 77 more centers.

The Puneeth Rajkumar Hrudaya Jyothi Scheme provides free treatment to patients, including those with APL cards. The scheme has been beneficial in saving lives and its expansion will further increase accessibility to healthcare services.
