State road transport corporations to add 2,000 buses to fleets

BENGALURU: The state road transport corporations (RTCs) has made a significant announcement which is expected to bring relief to thousands of commuters, particularly women, who have been struggling with overcrowding in buses since the launch of the Shakti scheme.

The state transport department has decided to purchase 2,000 new buses to address the issue of overcrowding in government buses. The buses will be distributed among four corporations, including the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) and the Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation( BMTC). According to the allocation, 700 buses will go to Kalyana Karnataka, 500 buses for KSRTC, 400 buses for BMTC and 400 buses for North-West Karnataka Transport Corporation (NWKRTC).

The first batch of 300 buses is expected to arrive next month, and the rest will be rolled out in phases. This move aims to provide adequate transportation facilities to the state’s growing population and alleviate the congestion in buses. With the new buses, commuters can expect a more comfortable and convenient travel experience.
