BENGALURU: Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, in his budget speech, emphasised the importance of the state having a healthy population and said his government is committed to to ensure quality health services from birth to all age groups without discrimination at affordable rates.
“The government aims to reduce preventable maternal mortality in the state to minimum. About Rs 320 crore has been provided for this programme. The government planned to MCH specialists will be deputed in every taluk hospital through re-deployment of posts”, he said.
Nutrition kits, financial incentives and Vatsalya Kits for mothers will be distributed to prevent anaemia among pregnant. Critical Care Blocks of 50-bed capacity across the State and one Critical Care Block of 100-bed capacity in Bengaluru City have been constructed.
The honorarium of ASHA workers will be enhanced by Rs 1,000 by providing team-based incentives. For the first of its kind initiative Karnataka will introduce a pioneering policy focused on preventing and treating burn injuries among women.

- KaBHI (Karnataka Brain Health Initiatives) to be extended to all levels of Health Centres during the current year at Rs 20 crore grants. Mental Health Wellness Centres to be opened in districts

- 200 bedded state of the art hospital to be built in Bengaluru North at Rs. 150 crore.

- Puttur taluk hospital to be upgraded new 200 bedded hospital in Molakalmuru and 400 bedded hospital in Virajpete.

- Kalyana Karnataka comprehensive health improvement scheme to be implemented at Rs 873 crore.
- Cashless treatment upto Rs 5 lakh coverage for more than 3 lakh contract, outsource / Honorarium employees and dependents.
Rare Digestive Disorder disease screening in infants and pre-natals in mining affected and Kalyana Karnataka areas and Rs 19 crore for preventing cervical cancer.
- Rs 100 crore for State wide expansion of Gruha Aroghya Scheme for non-communicable diseases.
- Command control centre to be brought under Health department to strenghthen Arogya Kavacha Scheme.
- Rs 50 crore for control of communicable diseases like Chikungunya, Dengue, and KFD in Malnad region.
- Rs 12 crore for cochlear implant procedure and maintenance of spare parts under Shravana Sanjeevini
- Asha workers team based remuneration to be increased up to Rs 1,000.
- First of its kind policy for women’s burn injury care.
Women and Child Development
- Monthly honorarium of Anganwadi workers to be increased by Rs 1,000 and Rs. 750 for helpers.
- Under ‘Sakshama Anganwadi Scheme’ Rs. 175 crore provided for infrastructure development of 17,454 Anganawadis
- Rs. 10 crore for purchase of CA sites for Anganwadis.
- A survey to be conducted to collect data of differently abled person, on their social and economic status for better support.
- Rs. 5 crore for development of government residential schools for special children in Mysuru and Belagavi.
- Rs. 1,000 financial assistance extended to caregivers of persons with autism, mental illness, and multiple disabilities.
- Monthly incentive for HIV-infected/affected children under the Special Support Scheme to increase to Rs. 2,000.
- Food allowance for children in residential special schools under State Grant-in-Aid will increase to Rs. 1,750.
- Schools for the deaf in Bellary and for the blind in Hubbali will be upgraded as high schools.
- Rs. 94,084 crore allocated for women-centric programmes.
- Rs. 62,033 crore allocated for children-centric programmes.
Several projects undertaken to strengthen health system in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadagiri, Raichur, Koppal, Ballari and Vijayanagar Districts under Kalyana Karntaka.

- Upgradation of 30 bedded Primary Health Centers to 50 bedded Community Health Centers-10.
- New Urban Community Health Centers-04.
- Upgradation of 30 bedded Community Health Centers to 50 bedded FRUs-25.
- Conversion of hospitals in Kamalapur, Kampli, Kuragodu, Shahbad, Kukanur, Koratagi and Kanakagiri to 100 bedded taluk hospitals.
- Upgradation of 100 bedded taluk hospitals in Siraguppa, Sandur, Bhalki, Sedam, Chittapura, Jewargi, Gangavathi, Kudlagi and Shahapur to 150 bedded sub – divisional hospitals.
- Upgradation of Sub-divisional hospital in Basavakalyan and Lingasugur to District Hospitals.
