CHIKKAMAGALUR: Following the surrender of six Naxals two days ago, the police have found several arms and ammunition in the Kittalegandi forest in Megur range in Koppa taluk on Friday night. The police are now investigating if the recovered weapons belonged to the surrendered Naxals.

The seized weapons include one carbine, five .303 rifles, a pistol and about 100 live rounds of ammunition. A case has been registered against unknown persons under the Arms Act at the Jayapura police station.

At the time of their surrender in the presence of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the Naxals had handed over their uniforms and letters of surrender, but had not disclosed about their weapons.

Chikkamagalur SP Vikram Amathe said the weapons and ammunition were found buried in the forest and were recovered around 11.30 pm. Incidentally, the Naxals had emerged from the Megur forest area before their surrender.
