UDUPI: Indian Cricket star Suryakumar Yadav visited the Kaup new Marigudi temple in Udupi along with his wife Devisha after Men in Blue clinched the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 title, and sought blessings of the deity.
A special puja was offered to Mariyamma and Uchchangi Devi. A huge pillar in front of the temple was donated by the Suryakumar couple.
The star batsman received a warm welcome from cricket fans and was also felicitated by the temple administration. He expressed happiness after seeing an under-construction temple being built with Ilakal stone with carved sculptures.
Yadav said that he felt peace after entering the temple and seeing the deity. He also said the celebration of their wedding anniversary will always be remembered. “It’s always etched in our memories”, he added.
Talking about the stupendous catch during the final, Yadav said, “It is impossible to appease everyone”. Surya said that he would does go to the field without a bubblegum. “Life is very big and the World Cup is a part of it”, he said.
He said that he plans to visit the temple again during the Brahmakalashotsava. To a question on becoming Team India captain, he only said, “It is God’s will. My goal is to play well for the country”.
Wife Devisha said, “We came to the temple five years ago and now we got the opportunity to come back”. The couple expressed their desire to visit the temple again and participate in the Brahmostsav ceremony.
Devisha Shetty said, “We came here five years ago, and now we have the opportunity to visit again. We are a family which worships Mariymma”.
“I don’t want to reveal what I prayed to the Devi, but I have a strong determination to serve God. I don’t want to talk about what vow I had taken. Representing India and winning the World Cup is the dream of every cricketer, and I am thrilled that one of my dreams has come true. I have many such dreams, and I need to move forward with more such aspirations”, she added.
