BENGALURU: A 15-year-old girl, Tejaswini, died on the spot on Saturday after a centring pole fell on her head from a five-storey under-construction building while she was walking on the service road near the National College Metro station in Bengaluru.
Tejaswini, daughter of Sudhakar and Dhanalakshmi, was an SSLC student at a private school. The incident occurred around 1 pm when she was walking home from school.
Tejaswini was a fan of late actor Puneeth Rajkumar and had even taken dance training at an academy. She had participated in several dance competitions and dreamed of becoming a dancer.
Her parents have filed a complaint against the building owner at the VV Puram police station. The police are looking for the building owner and workers who were present at the site when the incident occurred. The VV Puram police have summoned the building owners and contractors for violating construction norms.
The Victoria hospital handed over the body to the parent after the post-mortem process. The family member alleged that the building was constructed adjacent to the road without leaving space, and construction materials were stored on the road. No safety precautions were taken, and a net was not used to prevent objects from falling on to the road, they said. The public is still using the road, and the police have not yet taken action.
The family of the deceased Tejaswini alleged that the police have not taken sufficient action. The centering pole that fell on Tejaswini’s head is still at the scene and has not been seized, they said.
The family has filed a complaint against the building owners, engineer Chandrashekhar, and BBMP officials.
The father of deceased Sudhakar expressed suspicion over the police for not taking any action against the accused, and said that there is a chance of police involvement in the case and building owner. “We are not getting justice. There is no value for children poor families. They blocked half of the road by dumping construction materials. Is there some link between police and the building owners?” he questioned.
